設問

Some people think that online learning will soon replace traditional classrooms. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Nowadays, online learning become more and more popular, especially after the pandemic. Some people think that it will replace traditional classroom in the near future. I partly agree with this opinion, because online learning has many advantages, but classrooms still have some important functions.

On the one hand, online learning is very convenient for students. They can study at any time and in any place, so they do not need to spend time on travelling to school. For example, a student who live in a small village can watch lectures from famous universities on the internet. Students can also replay a lesson if they do not understand it at the first time. In addition, online courses are often cheaper than traditional ones, which is good for people who do not have much money.

On the other hand, traditional classrooms is still necessary. Firstly, students can communicate with teachers and classmates face to face, and this is good for them. For instance, in a group discussion students learn how to express their ideas and listen to others. Secondly, many students are not self-disciplined enough. When they study at home, they are easy to be distracted by their phones or games, and they cannot finish their tasks on time. Teachers in a classroom can help them to focus and solve their problems immediately.

In conclusion, although online learning has a lot of benefits, I do not think it will completely replace traditional classrooms. I believe the best way is to combine the two methods, so students can enjoy the advantages of both.

ところが最初の文から "online learning become" と書き、後にも "traditional classrooms is"、"a student who live" と、主語と動詞がかみ合っていません。

あなたは "I partly agree with this opinion, because online learning has many advantages, but classrooms still have some important functions." と部分同意の立場をはっきり立て、結論の "I do not think it will completely replace traditional classrooms."

Nowadays, online learning become more and more popular, especially after the pandemic.
Online learning has grown rapidly in recent years, especially since the pandemic pushed so many courses onto the internet, and some people now believe it will replace the traditional classroom in the near future.

Firstly, students can communicate with teachers and classmates face to face, and this is good for them.
Learning in the same room allows students to communicate with teachers and classmates face to face, and this shapes skills that recorded lectures cannot.

  3. TR
    答案
For instance, in a group discussion students learn how to express their ideas and listen to others.
In a group discussion, for instance, a student has to put an idea into words, defend it when it is questioned, and listen closely to others before replying—the kind of exchange that only happens when people respond to each other in real time.

冒頭で "I partly agree with this opinion" とはっきり部分同意を宣言し、結論の "I do not think it will completely replace traditional classrooms."

Online learning has grown rapidly in recent years, especially since the pandemic pushed so many courses onto the internet, and some people now believe it will replace the traditional classroom in the near future. I partly agree with this view: online learning offers real advantages, but classrooms continue to perform functions that a screen cannot fully reproduce, so one will not simply replace the other.

The strongest case for online learning is its convenience. Because lessons can be reached at any time and from any place, students no longer lose hours travelling to and from school, and that saved time can be spent studying instead. The reach this creates matters most for learners who would otherwise be shut out: a student in a small village can watch lectures delivered by famous universities that no local institution could provide. Online lessons can also be replayed, so a student who misses a point the first time can return to it until it is clear, rather than falling behind as happens in a classroom that moves at one fixed pace. Lower fees add to this, since online courses are often cheaper than traditional ones and therefore open to people without much money.

These gains, however, do not remove what the classroom still does best. Learning in the same room allows students to communicate with teachers and classmates face to face, and this shapes skills that recorded lectures cannot. In a group discussion, for instance, a student has to put an idea into words, defend it when it is questioned, and listen closely to others before replying—the kind of exchange that only happens when people respond to each other in real time. The classroom also supplies the discipline many learners lack. A large number of students are not self-disciplined enough to work alone, and at home the phone or a game is always within reach, so tasks go unfinished. A teacher in the room notices when attention drifts, keeps students on task, and answers a question the moment it arises rather than hours later.

For these reasons, I do not think online learning will completely replace traditional classrooms. The better path is to combine the two, letting students enjoy the flexibility of online study alongside the guidance and interaction only a classroom provides.

  1. 答案Nowadays, online learning become more and more popular, especially after the pandemic.

修正例Online learning has grown rapidly in recent years, especially since the pandemic pushed so many courses onto the internet, and some people now believe it will replace the traditional classroom in the near future.

さらに「more and more popular」は使い古された平凡な言い回しです。

  2. 答案Some people think that it will replace traditional classroom in the near future.

修正例Online learning has grown rapidly in recent years, especially since the pandemic pushed so many courses onto the internet, and some people now believe it will replace the traditional classroom in the near future.

  3. 答案I partly agree with this opinion, because online learning has many advantages, but classrooms still have some important functions.

修正例I partly agree with this view: online learning offers real advantages, but classrooms continue to perform functions that a screen cannot fully reproduce, so one will not simply replace the other.

原文の「still have some important functions」はやや平凡ですが誤りではありません。

次回は 改稿はあなたの立場を保ったまま「that a screen cannot fully reproduce, so one will not simply replace the other」を加え、「どの程度か」という判断をより鋭く言い切っています。

  4. 答案On the one hand, online learning is very convenient for students.

修正例The strongest case for online learning is its convenience.

  5. 答案They can study at any time and in any place, so they do not need to spend time on travelling to school.

修正例Because lessons can be reached at any time and from any place, students no longer lose hours travelling to and from school, and that saved time can be spent studying instead.

次回は 書き換えはあなたの主張を保ちつつ、「that saved time can be spent studying instead」という次のつながりを足しています。

  6. 答案For example, a student who live in a small village can watch lectures from famous universities on the internet.

修正例The reach this creates matters most for learners who would otherwise be shut out: a student in a small village can watch lectures delivered by famous universities that no local institution could provide.

「a student who live」は、関係詞 who が単数の student を指すので「lives」でなければいけません。

ただし「that no local institution could provide」は書き換え側が足した主張です。

  7. 答案Students can also replay a lesson if they do not understand it at the first time.

修正例Online lessons can also be replayed, so a student who misses a point the first time can return to it until it is clear, rather than falling behind as happens in a classroom that moves at one fixed pace.

  8. 答案In addition, online courses are often cheaper than traditional ones, which is good for people who do not have much money.

修正例Lower fees add to this, since online courses are often cheaper than traditional ones and therefore open to people without much money.

「which is good for people who do not have much money」は、他でも使っている曖昧な「good for」の型をくり返す、ゆるく平板な言い回しというだけです。

次は「good for...」

  9. 答案On the other hand, traditional classrooms is still necessary.

修正例These gains, however, do not remove what the classroom still does best.

These gains, however, do not remove what the classroom still does best"のように、前段落の利点を一度受け止めてから反論に転じています。

  10. 答案Firstly, students can communicate with teachers and classmates face to face, and this is good for them.

修正例Learning in the same room allows students to communicate with teachers and classmates face to face, and this shapes skills that recorded lectures cannot.

this is good for them"は「利点がある」とは伝えますが、その利点が具体的に何なのかを言っていないので、主張を述べただけで展開されていません。

  11. 答案For instance, in a group discussion students learn how to express their ideas and listen to others.

修正例In a group discussion, for instance, a student has to put an idea into words, defend it when it is questioned, and listen closely to others before replying—the kind of exchange that only happens when people respond to each other in real time.

The classroom also supplies the discipline many learners lack.

  13. 答案Secondly, many students are not self-disciplined enough.

修正例A large number of students are not self-disciplined enough to work alone, and at home the phone or a game is always within reach, so tasks go unfinished.

Secondly, many students are not self-disciplined enough"は正しいものの主張がむき出しの状態でした。

次回は "the phone or a game is always within reach, so tasks go unfinished"が原因から結果まで一つの流れでつないでいる点に注目してください。

  14. 答案When they study at home, they are easy to be distracted by their phones or games, and they cannot finish their tasks on time.

  15. 答案Teachers in a classroom can help them to focus and solve their problems immediately.

元の文は一般的("help them to focus and solve their problems")でしたが、代わりの文は具体的な行動を示しています。

次回は "help them to focus"や"solve their problems"のような表現は無難ですが曖昧です。

A teacher in the room notices when attention drifts, keeps students on task, and answers a question the moment it arises rather than hours later.

  17. 答案In conclusion, although online learning has a lot of benefits, I do not think it will completely replace traditional classrooms.

修正例For these reasons, I do not think online learning will completely replace traditional classrooms.

「I do not think it will completely replace traditional classrooms」は文法も明快さも問題なく、あなたの「部分的に賛成」という立場をそのまま言い直せています。

  18. 答案I believe the best way is to combine the two methods, so students can enjoy the advantages of both.

修正例The better path is to combine the two, letting students enjoy the flexibility of online study alongside the guidance and interaction only a classroom provides.

this is good for them" や短い例が、理由を言い切る前で止まっています。

On the one hand"、"On the other hand"、"Firstly"、"Secondly" と目印も変化があります。

students" と "online learning" が重く繰り返され、利点が "this is good for them" や "good for people who do not have much money" と平板に述べられています。

  • GRA

しかし、繰り返し現れる目につく誤りが段階を抑えています——"online learning become"、"traditional classrooms is"、"a student who live"、そして "they are easy to be distracted" という母語型の写しです。

who ..."
    • online learning become → online learning becomes
    • traditional classrooms is → traditional classrooms are
    • a student who live → a student who lives
easily distracted" であって "easy to be distracted" ではない。
    • they are easy to be distracted → they are easily distracted
