문제

Some people think that online learning will soon replace traditional classrooms. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Nowadays, online learning become more and more popular, especially after the pandemic. Some people think that it will replace traditional classroom in the near future. I partly agree with this opinion, because online learning has many advantages, but classrooms still have some important functions.

On the one hand, online learning is very convenient for students. They can study at any time and in any place, so they do not need to spend time on travelling to school. For example, a student who live in a small village can watch lectures from famous universities on the internet. Students can also replay a lesson if they do not understand it at the first time. In addition, online courses are often cheaper than traditional ones, which is good for people who do not have much money.

On the other hand, traditional classrooms is still necessary. Firstly, students can communicate with teachers and classmates face to face, and this is good for them. For instance, in a group discussion students learn how to express their ideas and listen to others. Secondly, many students are not self-disciplined enough. When they study at home, they are easy to be distracted by their phones or games, and they cannot finish their tasks on time. Teachers in a classroom can help them to focus and solve their problems immediately.

In conclusion, although online learning has a lot of benefits, I do not think it will completely replace traditional classrooms. I believe the best way is to combine the two methods, so students can enjoy the advantages of both.

"I partly agree with this opinion"이라고 입장을 세우고 그 선을 결론까지 끝까지 지켰으니까요. 그런데 바로 첫 문장에서 "online learning become"이라고 썼고, 뒤에서도 "traditional classrooms is", "a student who live"처럼 동사가 주어와 맞지 않습니다. "this is good for them"처럼 표현이 막연한 곳이 있고, 근거를 들 때 짧은 예시에서 멈춰 설명을 끝맺지 못하는 경향이 있습니다.

당신은 "I partly agree with this opinion, because online learning has many advantages, but classrooms still have some important functions."

Nowadays, online learning become more and more popular, especially after the pandemic.
Online learning has grown rapidly in recent years, especially since the pandemic pushed so many courses onto the internet, and some people now believe it will replace the traditional classroom in the near future.

같은 규칙이 "traditional classrooms is"(복수 주어라 "are")와 "a student who live"(관계절 동사가 단수 "student"에 맞춰 "lives")에도 그대로 적용됩니다.

Firstly, students can communicate with teachers and classmates face to face, and this is good for them.
Learning in the same room allows students to communicate with teachers and classmates face to face, and this shapes skills that recorded lectures cannot.

For instance, in a group discussion students learn how to express their ideas and listen to others.
In a group discussion, for instance, a student has to put an idea into words, defend it when it is questioned, and listen closely to others before replying—the kind of exchange that only happens when people respond to each other in real time.

이유 당신의 예시는 적절하지만, 학생들이 "learn how to express their ideas and listen to others"라는 일반적 서술에서 멈춰, 이 경험이 왜 가치 있는지를 보여 주는 한 걸음을 빠뜨립니다.

도입부의 "I partly agree with this opinion"이 그대로 결론까지 이어져, 읽는 사람이 당신이 어디 서 있는지 한 번도 헷갈리지 않습니다.

Online learning has grown rapidly in recent years, especially since the pandemic pushed so many courses onto the internet, and some people now believe it will replace the traditional classroom in the near future. I partly agree with this view: online learning offers real advantages, but classrooms continue to perform functions that a screen cannot fully reproduce, so one will not simply replace the other.

The strongest case for online learning is its convenience. Because lessons can be reached at any time and from any place, students no longer lose hours travelling to and from school, and that saved time can be spent studying instead. The reach this creates matters most for learners who would otherwise be shut out: a student in a small village can watch lectures delivered by famous universities that no local institution could provide. Online lessons can also be replayed, so a student who misses a point the first time can return to it until it is clear, rather than falling behind as happens in a classroom that moves at one fixed pace. Lower fees add to this, since online courses are often cheaper than traditional ones and therefore open to people without much money.

These gains, however, do not remove what the classroom still does best. Learning in the same room allows students to communicate with teachers and classmates face to face, and this shapes skills that recorded lectures cannot. In a group discussion, for instance, a student has to put an idea into words, defend it when it is questioned, and listen closely to others before replying—the kind of exchange that only happens when people respond to each other in real time. The classroom also supplies the discipline many learners lack. A large number of students are not self-disciplined enough to work alone, and at home the phone or a game is always within reach, so tasks go unfinished. A teacher in the room notices when attention drifts, keeps students on task, and answers a question the moment it arises rather than hours later.

For these reasons, I do not think online learning will completely replace traditional classrooms. The better path is to combine the two, letting students enjoy the flexibility of online study alongside the guidance and interaction only a classroom provides.

  1. 답안Nowadays, online learning become more and more popular, especially after the pandemic.

Online learning has grown rapidly in recent years, especially since the pandemic pushed so many courses onto the internet, and some people now believe it will replace the traditional classroom in the near future.

'more and more popular'도 다소 흔하고 밋밋한 표현입니다.

고치는 방법 고쳐 쓴 문장은 동사를 'has grown rapidly in recent years'로 바로잡고, 다음 문장과 하나로 묶어 배경을 매끄럽게 엽니다.

  2. 답안Some people think that it will replace traditional classroom in the near future.

Online learning has grown rapidly in recent years, especially since the pandemic pushed so many courses onto the internet, and some people now believe it will replace the traditional classroom in the near future.

다만 'pushed so many courses onto the internet'는 당신이 쓰지 않은, 글쓴이가 더한 세부 내용임을 알아두세요.

  3. 답안I partly agree with this opinion, because online learning has many advantages, but classrooms still have some important functions.

I partly agree with this view: online learning offers real advantages, but classrooms continue to perform functions that a screen cannot fully reproduce, so one will not simply replace the other.

'still have some important functions'라는 표현이 조금 평이하지만 틀린 것은 아닙니다.

고치는 방법 고쳐 쓴 문장은 당신의 입장을 그대로 두면서 'that a screen cannot fully reproduce, so one will not simply replace the other'를 더해 '어느 정도' 동의하는지에 대한 판단을 더 날카롭게 드러냅니다.

  4. 답안On the one hand, online learning is very convenient for students.

The strongest case for online learning is its convenience.

고치는 방법 고쳐진 문장은 'The strongest case for online learning is its convenience'처럼 생각을 명명하고 '가장 강한 근거'라고 순위까지 매기는 진짜 주제문으로 바꿨어요.

  5. 답안They can study at any time and in any place, so they do not need to spend time on travelling to school.

Because lessons can be reached at any time and from any place, students no longer lose hours travelling to and from school, and that saved time can be spent studying instead.

고치는 방법 고쳐진 문장은 당신의 요지를 그대로 두고 'that saved time can be spent studying instead'라는 다음 연결고리를 덧붙였어요.

  6. 답안For example, a student who live in a small village can watch lectures from famous universities on the internet.

The reach this creates matters most for learners who would otherwise be shut out: a student in a small village can watch lectures delivered by famous universities that no local institution could provide.

'a student who live'는 'lives'가 맞는데, 관계절의 주어 'who'가 단수 'student'를 가리키기 때문이에요.

단 'that no local institution could provide'는 쓴이가 추가한 주장이에요.

  7. 답안Students can also replay a lesson if they do not understand it at the first time.

Online lessons can also be replayed, so a student who misses a point the first time can return to it until it is clear, rather than falling behind as happens in a classroom that moves at one fixed pace.

    이유 요지(학생이 수업을 다시 볼 수 있다)는 분명하고, 'at the first time'라는 작은 관용 표현 실수('the first time'가 자연스러움)만 있어요.

  8. 답안In addition, online courses are often cheaper than traditional ones, which is good for people who do not have much money.

Lower fees add to this, since online courses are often cheaper than traditional ones and therefore open to people without much money.

'which is good for people who do not have much money'는 그저 느슨하고 밋밋한 표현이고, 다른 곳에서도 쓰는 막연한 'good for' 패턴을 반복할 뿐이에요.

고치는 방법 고쳐진 문장은 'therefore open to people without much money'로 다듬어 더 정확하고 원인과 결과를 연결해요. 다음엔 'good for...'

  9. 답안On the other hand, traditional classrooms is still necessary.

These gains, however, do not remove what the classroom still does best.

이유 원래 문장 "traditional classrooms is still necessary"는 복수 주어에 단수 동사 "is"가 붙어 주어-동사 일치가 어긋나 있어요.

고치는 방법 고친 문장은 일치를 바로잡고, 밋밋한 "on the other hand" 대신 "These gains, however, do not remove what the classroom still does best"로 앞 내용을 먼저 인정한 뒤 반전시킵니다.

  10. 답안Firstly, students can communicate with teachers and classmates face to face, and this is good for them.

Learning in the same room allows students to communicate with teachers and classmates face to face, and this shapes skills that recorded lectures cannot.

  11. 답안For instance, in a group discussion students learn how to express their ideas and listen to others.

In a group discussion, for instance, a student has to put an idea into words, defend it when it is questioned, and listen closely to others before replying—the kind of exchange that only happens when people respond to each other in real time.

이유 원래 예시는 활동("express their ideas and listen to others")을 언급했지만 하나의 사례에서 멈추어 그것이 왜 중요한지까지는 끌어내지 못했어요. 다만 "defend it when it is questioned"와 "in real time" 같은 세부는 네 생각에 충실하긴 하지만 고쳐 쓴 사람이 덧붙인 부연임을 알아 두세요.

The classroom also supplies the discipline many learners lack.

  13. 답안Secondly, many students are not self-disciplined enough.

A large number of students are not self-disciplined enough to work alone, and at home the phone or a game is always within reach, so tasks go unfinished.

이유 "Secondly, many students are not self-disciplined enough"는 맞지만 앙상한 주장이었어요.

고치는 방법 "the phone or a game is always within reach, so tasks go unfinished"가 원인과 결과를 한 흐름으로 잇는 방식을 눈여겨보세요.

  14. 답안When they study at home, they are easy to be distracted by their phones or games, and they cannot finish their tasks on time.

또 원래의 "they are easy to be distracted"는 어색한 직역체였는데 이 통합 과정에서 조용히 바로잡혔습니다.

  15. 답안Teachers in a classroom can help them to focus and solve their problems immediately.

원래 문장은 "help them to focus and solve their problems"처럼 일반적이었는데, 대체 문장은 구체적인 행동을 제시합니다.

고치는 방법 "help them to focus"나 "solve their problems" 같은 표현은 안전하지만 모호해요.

A teacher in the room notices when attention drifts, keeps students on task, and answers a question the moment it arises rather than hours later.

  17. 답안In conclusion, although online learning has a lot of benefits, I do not think it will completely replace traditional classrooms.

For these reasons, I do not think online learning will completely replace traditional classrooms.

이유 원래 문장 "I do not think it will completely replace traditional classrooms" 자체는 문법적으로 맞고 입장도 분명해서 그대로도 기능합니다. 다만 앞부분 "In conclusion, although online learning has a lot of benefits"는 이미 두 개의 본문 단락에서 충분히 양보해 둔 내용을 결론에서 또 반복하는 셈이고, 'it'은 독자가 무엇을 가리키는지 잠깐 되돌아보게 만듭니다.

를 "For these reasons"로 바꿔 다시 양보하는 대신 방금 제시한 근거를 가리키게 했고, 'it' 대신 'online learning'을 써서 주어를 분명히 했습니다.

  18. 답안I believe the best way is to combine the two methods, so students can enjoy the advantages of both.

The better path is to combine the two, letting students enjoy the flexibility of online study alongside the guidance and interaction only a classroom provides.

고치는 방법 고친 문장은 "the flexibility of online study"와 "the guidance and interaction only a classroom provides"로 그 빈칸을 채웠는데, 이는 새로운 주장이 아니라 본문에서 이미 논증한 내용을 끌어와 마지막 문장이 실제로 각 방식의 기여를 말하게 한 것입니다.

"I partly agree with this opinion"이 일관된 결론으로 곧장 이어지고, 시골 학생과 그룹 토론 같은 실제 예시로 양쪽을 받쳤습니다. "this is good for them"이나 짧은 예시가 추론을 끝맺기 전에 끊깁니다.

네 문단의 역할이 분명하고, 장점에서 교실의 가치로, 다시 결론으로 이어지는 순서가 논리적이며, "On the one hand", "On the other hand", "Firstly", "Secondly" 같은 이정표도 다양합니다.

"students"와 "online learning"이 자주 되풀이되고, 이점은 "this is good for them", "good for people who do not have much money"처럼 밋밋하게 서술됩니다.

"online learning become", "traditional classrooms is", "a student who live", 그리고 번역투 "they are easy to be distracted"가 그렇습니다.

'who ...'
    • online learning become → online learning becomes
    • traditional classrooms is → traditional classrooms are
    • a student who live → a student who lives
"easy to be distracted"가 아니라 "easily distracted"입니다.
    • they are easy to be distracted → they are easily distracted
